From an article on Kotaku, we learn that Nintendo has updated their warnings about playing games on the 3DS.

They suggest you take a break after 30 minutes to reduce any adverse problems. This makes sense considering that we already know that 3D causes eye fatigue faster than regular software.

The advice from Nintendo is “If your physical condition worsens or you become ill, please stop playing at once.” They also stated that 3D affects different people in different ways.

The use of the slider is encouraged for long lasting enjoyment, especially for young children, because when they watch 3D too much, it can affect them when they get older. Nintendo also stated that, “Since the Nintendo 3DS can be changed to 2D to avoid any effects on young children’s vision, it is possible for anyone to enjoy playing it.” Since parental controls will be included on the 3DS, this probably is a hint that children should play in 2D.
