From Nintendo World in Japan, a trailer for Paper Mario has emerged. Although only a demo and not a playable game, it didn’t fail to impress fans.

Apparently, from 3DS Buzz we get the news that Mario and other characters will be in 2D but they will be in a 3D world. Stickers, which are new to this game, are collected during gameplay and can be used in battles and for unlocking new routes.

andriasang reports that in a Q & A discussion last week, game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto talked with investors about Mario games for the 3DS.

Miyamoto explained that the 3D visual effects give players the feeling of involvement with more freedom and choice. He also added, “When asked ‘what will we do on 3DS,’ the answer is, of course, we’ll make both. They both have their own appeal. The 3DS’s 3D effect also “gives a great feeling of existence to Mario, Link and others.

He also pointed out that depth-based effects can already be seen in 2D Mario games, such as Wiggler, and Bullet Bill and he commented, “It’s difficult to tell when they will hit the player, so we were only able to use these lightly. However, we’ll be able to use this type of thing quite a bit on the 3DS.”

A small batch of new Paper Mario screenshots have been posted on Nintendo’s Japanese website. These shots show off some of the depth we’ll likely be seeing in the game. I’m reminded of Paper Mario’s most recent outing on the Wii. It should be a great title!

Paper Mario for Nintendo 3DS

On Nintendo’s Japanese website, we get to see a few of the screens from some of the first party games.

Some of them are Nintendogs + Cats, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS, Pilotwings Resort, and Kid Icarus.

Nintendo3DSblog is reporting that Nintendo’s Dutch website had Paper Mario’s 3DS release date listed as March 25, 2011. ‘Had’ is the operative word here, as the page has since been taken down from the site. Since Paper Mario has not been confirmed as a launch title, this date is really only applicable to the game at this point. There’s nothing to say the Nintendo 3DS system can’t release earlier than March 25.

However, if it turns out Nintendo launches the 3DS in March, as many suspect, it looks like we know what a likely launch candidate is going to be!

Paper Mario Dutch release date

As we get closer to September 29, more rumors seem to be popping up regarding the release date of the Nintendo 3DS. The latest one comes in the form of a possible Nintendo title releasing this year. And not just any title either. We’re talking a launch-caliber first party game in Paper Mario.

This information is coming from a French source that got the details from a Japanese newspaper, so this should definitely still be considered a rumor. The name of the publication source is the “Asahi Shimbun Nippon” newspaper, and they are apparently claiming that Paper Mario 3DS is scheduled to be advertised and sold in Japan before 2010 is out.

A 2010 release for the Nintendo 3DS with Paper Mario as one of the launch titles would be huge.  There’s no way the 3DS could release without at least one AAA title, and Paper Mario easily fills that role.

Below is  an image of the article in question. I don’t understand anything it says, but judging from the pictures on display, one can tell that the focus of the story appears to be the 25th Anniversary Super Mario Collection Pack. How Paper Mario for the 3DS factors into that is anyone’s guess, so at this point I’m not putting too much weight behind this rumor.

G4TV’s review of Paper Mario for the Nintendo 3DS sounds promising. Taking advantage of the 3D effects, the viewed demo of Paper Mario was impressive. Because games for this unit are still in production, nobody can really tell for sure just how great they’ll be. But it looks like this game is going to be a winner for sure.

Here is a YouTube video posted by Nintendo World Report that shows a bit of off-camera footage from E3 where we can see some gameplay from 3DS games Paper Mario and Mario Kart. While it’s unfortunate the 3D effects can’t be seen without actually having the unit in your hands, the video still shows off some pretty visuals from the games as well as giving us a look at the widescreen format of the unit’s top screen.
