Earlier today Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced in a video message that the company is planning to hold a public 3DS demo event in Japan early next year. This will be the first opportunity for members of the general public anywhere in the world to get up close and personal with the Nintendo 3DS.

This event is Nintendo’s first response to the major hurdle of conveying the system’s 3D effects to potential buyers. Iwata noted that currently there are no plans for any other large scale events, but mentioned the company is working to give players in other parts of Japan a chance to demo the system ahead of its release. Certainly other audiences around the world will get similar opportunities as the system’s release date gets closer.

For now, Japanese gamers will get their first hands-on opportunity with the Nintendo 3DS when this event takes place on January 8, 9, and 10 at the Makuhari Messe, which is just outside of Tokyo.
