We’re hearing a few new details about what to expect from Resident Evil: Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS.

The game is said to be quite story-heavy, and we’ll even see trouble with Chris and Jill’s friendship – something we’ve already seen evidence of in screenshots from the game. As for the game’s camera style, expect something similar to what was seen in Resident Evil 4 and 5. The camera will change to a first person view when aiming, but you’ll be able to move and shoot while in this view.

A gameplay location we’ll likely see is a dark haunted house-like cruise ship. This vessel is doomed, and as the game progresses parts the ship will be flooded and get torn apart – with this damage taking place in real-time instead of  with predetermined events. The more time players take on the ship, the worse the damage will get. Weather will also play a part in the game, but it is not clear how and to what extent.

Some new details about Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D have surfaced.

It sounds as if every playable character from both Resident Evil 4 and 5 Mercenaries modes will be playable – including Leon, Ada, Krauser, HUNK, Wesker, Chris, Jill, and Sheva – with more hidden characters who have not previously been available.  As for the stages, apparently eight Mercenaries stages from RE5 and four from RE4 will be included.

The title will have new game modes as well as alternate costumes for the characters. The stages from Resident Evil 4 may be made more like the Mercenaries stages from Resident Evil 5, with different time crystals and more enemies as well as some graphical enhancements.

According to andriasang, at an investor’s meeting today, Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo, mentioned some of the features of the shopping channel for the 3DS. One of those include an option to visit “racks” relating to different themes. Each “rack” will have theme oriented software.

On selection of a game, details, movies, and a demo will be available. After selecting software details, you will get to see the description, and play status, among other things. Games will show latest released and most popular titles.

Earlier today Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced in a video message that the company is planning to hold a public 3DS demo event in Japan early next year. This will be the first opportunity for members of the general public anywhere in the world to get up close and personal with the Nintendo 3DS.

This event is Nintendo’s first response to the major hurdle of conveying the system’s 3D effects to potential buyers. Iwata noted that currently there are no plans for any other large scale events, but mentioned the company is working to give players in other parts of Japan a chance to demo the system ahead of its release. Certainly other audiences around the world will get similar opportunities as the system’s release date gets closer.

For now, Japanese gamers will get their first hands-on opportunity with the Nintendo 3DS when this event takes place on January 8, 9, and 10 at the Makuhari Messe, which is just outside of Tokyo.

An article on Bloomberg states that Nintendo reported a 15% drop in profit in the 2nd quarter. It is presumed that consumers are waiting for the Nintendo 3DS rather than buying a DS. Sales of Wii consoles and software are also down.

This slump is probably due to “the deteriorating profit trend,” stated games analyst, Jay Defibaugh. He also said that Nintendo is on, “a slippery slope for both of their key product lines, DS and Wii,” and “It’s been harder than people realized for Nintendo to make the transition between the DS and the 3DS.”

Yoshihiro Mori, senior managing director of Nintendo, stated, “I don’t think the announcement of the 3DS had much effect on second-quarter earnings. We decided not to release the 3DS this year because we didn’t have enough.”

Will 3DS sales help increase Nintendo’s profit next year? Only time will tell.

Reported on 1Up, Noritaka Funamizu, who was a developer for Capcom, gives his views on the 3DS to Famitsu.

“As a portable game system, the 3DS is just powerful enough, and that’s what I find so attractive about it. It’s not too weak, but not too overpowered, either – it seems easy to develop for. There’s this idea I had that was too complex for the DS, but wasn’t really suited for the PSP either, and I’d like to try tackling it again.”

Funamizu’s works include Street Fighter II, the Street Fighter Alpha series and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages. At the moment he is working on a PlayStation Move game but it looks like we can expect to see him involved in the Nintendo 3DS in the near future.
